Printing tips

  • Print at actual size (100%), not "fit to page", so the lines stay a usable size.
  • It is laid out for US Letter paper and also fits A4.
  • Turn on "background graphics" if the colors come out pale.

What is on this checklist

Before you bring them home

  • Litter box (one per cat, plus one) and unscented litter
  • Litter scoop and bags
  • Food and water bowls
  • The food the shelter or breeder used, to switch slowly
  • Cat carrier
  • Scratching post and a scratch pad
  • Wand toys and small balls
  • Soft bed in a quiet spot
  • Breakaway collar with an ID tag
  • Brush or comb

Kitten-proof the house

  • Lilies and other toxic plants out of the house
  • Cords, string, hair ties and rubber bands put away
  • Medicines and cleaning products shut away
  • Windows screened, washer and dryer doors closed
  • Recliners and folding furniture checked before use

First weeks

  • Start in one quiet room, then open up the house
  • Book a vet checkup and ask about vaccines and parasite control
  • Ask the vet about spaying or neutering and microchipping
  • Play every day with wand toys
  • Handle paws, ears and mouth gently so checkups are easier
  • Save the vet and poison control numbers in your phone
